Chapter 5

Sweet

I woke to a light shaking and I felt terrible. Exhausted, maybe a bit grumpy, I opened my eyes finding them dry and achy. “March?” I asked.

“Yes, it’s morning, but you seem overly tired.” He gave me his hand to help me up, and he did, but I also drained some energy off him.

“Wow.” He said. “Slow down, Baby.”

“Baby?” I asked.

“Well if you know me well enough to drain me, I can call you Baby.”

“I suppose you’re right.”

“No one to draw from last night?” He wondered.

“No, later we had no guards at the barn, only victims in need of assistance.” I admitted.

“You’re right. I gave it no thought.”

“It wasn’t your fault. But I still need to grab some energy before we leave.”

“I’m afraid I haven’t any to spare.”

“I know that. I’m going to draw some from the earth.” I promised. “I need to grab some food before we go as well.”

We went to the kitchen where I grabbed some food and ate hurriedly. Once I was done, we went outside, and I drew a little energy from the vines that protected the place. I was feeling much better now. Hopefully I would find some energy as we continued to carry out our activities. We met up with the others and now we would decide what to do next.

“Nice to see you two. Do we have any clues to another location?” Justin asked.

“I don’t know. We have been chasing down clues from captured guards that we’ve now run out of and hunting missing people but no one else has come forward with a personal item.” I explained.

“We should talk to some of the recovered people and take down statements. The council will want those statements and maybe we’ll find a clue.” Justin stated.

“Let’s start with those on hand first. Those in the hospital will need recovery time.” I observed.

“Agreed.” Justin said and we headed to one of the houses where victims were being housed.

There were ten people staying in this home of one of March’s pack members. They were a nice couple who had raised three children, a higher than usual number. The male was formerly pack security and the female owned a beauty shop. They also had a small farm they ran mostly for their own food.

Their lives had fallen apart since Redly had taken over. He’d taken over her shop and fired her husband from his security position. Jacob, the husband, was still required to battle against their enemies without pay. Her shop was listed but since it was recent, it hadn’t sold. We sat down and discussed things with them first and I began to take actions for March.

First, I cancelled the sale of the beauty salon. Now Erma, the female could rehire her employees and open her shop again. I was impressed when March discussed a contract that could be worked out for the pack where the alpha couldn’t sell property. It was the one Stan’s pack had. This would be put in place as quickly as possible.
